Strategic Ecommerce wins Victorian local government deal

Press Release: Melbourne. June 28, 2002

Strategic Ecommerce , an Australian e-procurement software specialist, has signed a contract with the Municipals Association of Victoria to provide licenses of its online purchasing software, StraightBUY to all Victorian councils.

The first stage of the project involves the integration of StraightBUY into three local government finance packages during a pilot study phase due for completion in October. Following the pilot study the software will then be licensed to all Victorian councils. The pilot councils are the City of Whittlesea, the City of Mildura and Northern Grampians Shire Council.

Municipals Association of Victoria Online Manager, John Hennessy said that in order to ensure that the right solution was chosen, a consultative approach was taken with councils.

"The Municipals Association went through an extensive process of involving councils in defining the needs of the sector and then seeking market input to meet the specification. Strategic Ecommerce emerged as the preferred solution to meet the needs of local government and we are confident that the pilot process will be successful," Mr Hennessy said.

City of Whittlesea Chief Executive Officer, Graeme Brennan said that the City of Whittlesea had evaluated its current purchasing processes and saw value in online purchasing.

"We have been looking for an e-procurement solution following an analysis of our purchasing process that revealed a per order processing cost of $56 and an ability to reduce this transaction cost by 26% through the use of electronic purchasing. The opportunity to pilot the StraightBUY product and work with Strategic Ecommerce and our corporate software supplier Civica to continue to develop the product and the integration with our financials is welcomed" Mr Brennan said.

As part of the Victorian local government project Strategic Ecommerce will also be offering its StraightSELL online catalogue product to suppliers.

Strategic Ecommerce Chief Executive Officer, Mr Andrew Sendy said suppliers to Councils could also expect to benefit from the project.

"Suppliers to Victorian councils can use any standards based online catalogue to trade with councils such as Strategic Ecommerce's catalogue product, StraightSELL, allows suppliers to automate the process of receiving orders, saving time and money" Mr Sendy said.
