Press
Release: Port Augusta. September 27, 2002
As part of the South Australian Local Government
E-procurement Initiative, the Port Augusta City Council is
using the internet to purchase goods and services from a wide
range of online suppliers.
Port Augusta City Council has implemented
StraightBUY, an online purchasing module developed by South
Australian company Strategic Ecommerce.
StraightBUY has been integrated into the
AUTHORITY financial system developed by the Newcastle software
company Civica. Port
Augusta City Council has been an AUTHORITY user since the
AUTHORITY product was developed in the early 1990's.
Mr Michael Dunemann, Director – Financial
and Information Services at Port Augusta City Council, said
that by adopting online purchasing, Council would streamline
existing purchasing procedures, whilst introducing local suppliers
to technology that will enable them to trade with other online
buyers in the region, and beyond.
“StraightBUY eliminates the manual
requisitioning process currently used for many of Council
purchases. The reduced workload as result of online purchasing
will ultimately free up purchasing staff to focus their attention
on strategic purchasing and supplier relationships resulting
in improved purchasing decisions. Furthermore, Council believe
that local suppliers who choose to create online catalogues
to trade with Port Augusta City Council will use the same
catalogues to trade with numerous online buyers”, Mr
Dunemann said.
Council buyers will access online StraightSELL
catalogues to raise orders upon. Suppliers that set-up these
online catalogues for Port Augusta City Council, will also
be able to use it to sell to other online buyers.
StraightSELL has also been integrated with
prominent accounting packages used by small to medium sized
business such as MYOB and Attache, thus allowing the seamless
flow of data out and also orders received online being directly
imported without the need for manual data entry.
By facilitating online trading with its
suppliers, Port Augusta City Council will have better purchasing
information on which to base its purchasing decisions and
the flow on effect to suppliers that create a catalogue for
Port Augusta City Council will also be gaining access to a
national market of compliant online buyers.
