SA’s Local Councils to Shop Online

Wattle Range Council Shops Online

Press Release: December 16, 2003

As part of the SA Local Government E-procurement Initiative, Wattle Range Council has adopted the StraightBUY e-procurement product which will allow them to purchase goods and request quotes online.

“StraightBUY has the potential for significant cost savings to Council through time savings and better, more accessible purchasing decisions, coupled with improved internal control of the purchasing process. Council staff were very impressed with the simplicity of use and advanced, integrated features of the system,” said CEO Mr Frank Brennan.

We see this initiative as having benefits for our region. Suppliers that set up online to supply Council will also be able to trade online to a diverse range of buyers throughout Australia. It should be added however that Council are not moving solely to online purchasing and existing suppliers are not required to participate. Major cost savings and marketing opportunities can be achieved by suppliers who choose to offer their goods for sale online, but it is their decision whether to take on this opportunity.” Mr. Brennan concluded.

Many other organisations, especially SA Councils, have now followed Wattle Range Council’s lead in implementing StraightBUY, which was developed by SA based e-procurement software specialist, Strategic Ecommerce.

Strategic Ecommerce’s Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sendy said that Wattle Range Council was demonstrating leadership and initiative by adopting a cost effective e-procurement solution.

“StraightBUY has also been fully integrated into Wattle Range Council’s financial management system, IT Vision, which will see a seamless flow of data between both solutions resulting in the reduction, and in the future, elimination, of current manual processes at Council”, said Mr Sendy.

"By facilitating online trading with its suppliers, Wattle Range Council will have better purchasing information on which to base its purchasing decisions. The flow on effect to online suppliers is that they are gaining access to a national market of online buyers added Mr Sendy..
